Images of British Lichens

Caloplaca cerinella (Nyl.) Flagey

Thallus thin, pale grey; apothecia crowded, small, about 0.3mm diameter, with orange-yellow discs and paler yellow to orange-yellow margins, asci with more than 8 and typically 12-16 ascospores (uniformly 8-spored in the closely similar but rarer C. cerinelloides). Widespread but local or under-recorded, a minute species on nutrient-rich twigs.
