Images of British Lichens

Toninia verrucarioides (Nyl.) Timdal

Thallus of mostly isolated, green to grey-brown, crenulate squamules, set within thalli of cyanolichens, most usually Placynthium nigrum, but seemingly not parasitic; apothecia lecideine, black. Distribution scattered but with a western trend, often on limestone, no doubt determined by distribution of suitable cyanolichen hosts.

Refs: Smith et al. (2009), 902; Purvis et al. (1992), 605 (as T. cervina); Dobson (2011), 435; Thomson (1997), 617 (as T. kolax).
