Images of British Lichens

Umbilicaria cylindrica (L.) Delise ex Duby
var. denticulata Ach.

Differs from var. cylindrica by the smooth undersurface, ± lacking rhizinomorphs, and the lobe margins being toothed or lacerate, projections flattened and in the same plane as the thallus. Distribution of the species: locally common on exposed rocks and boulders in the north and west, generally upland; the variety evidently widespread within this range (Kershaw, 1961).

Refs: Kershaw (1961), 256.

Probably simply a state that is not truly distinct from var. cylindrica.
